Coula Ashdjian celebrates 40 years at Clare
Wednesday, 12 January 2022, marked 40 years of service in Clare’s Catering Department for Coula Ashdjian. Coula was Buttery Supervisor until 2017 and, since retiring from this role, has continued to work part-time operating the Buttery tills.
To thank her for her dedicated service, Catering Manager Lee Corke presented Coula with flowers on behalf of the College.
Clare members recognised in the New Year Honours
Congratulations to:
John-Paul Marks (1999), Director General, Work and Health, Department for Work and Pensions, who has been appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath for services to Welfare Reform.
Benjamin Rimmington (1990), lately Co-Director, Road Safety Standards and Services, Department for Transport, who has been awarded a CBE for services to Transport during COVID-19.
Professor Russell Mardon Viner (1992), Professor in Adolescent Health, University College London, who has been awarded a CBE for services to Child and Adolescent Health, particularly during COVID-19.

On the 150th anniversary of the Varsity Match, Cambridge’s light blues were overcome 21 – 17 at Twickenham. Clare was proudly represented by Matt Pettit, starting at tighthead prop, in a side with the notable former England international, Toby Flood, starting at Fly Half.

Professor Andrew Preston’s presidential address to the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, entitled From Dong Dang to Da Nang: The Past, Present and Future of America’s Thirty Years War for Asia, has been published by OUP. Reddaway Fund reaches its funding goal
We are delighted to announce that the Reddaway Fund, which was set up in honour of Professor Brian Reddaway to support teaching in Economics, has reached its goal of £2 million. Our profound thanks to all who supported this Fund which will allow Clare to maintain teaching excellence in this field in perpetuity.
