Our newest Elizabeth de Clare Fellows
The Governing Body has recently elected three new Elizabeth de Clare Fellows, in recognition of their outstanding philanthropy to the college - philanthropy that continues the tradition begun in the 1330s by our foundress, Elizabeth de Clare.
Juliette Liu
JULIETTE LIU was born in Shanghai, China, and moved to Paris at the age of 11 with her brother and widowed mother, a piano teacher at the Shanghai Conservatory. After leaving school, Juliette began studying Medicine in Paris but had to discontinue her studies to help her mother’s work, selling chinoiserie door-to-door. She helped
the business expand from humble beginnings to a retail shop and then wholesaling to major chain stores and department stores. In her late twenties, Juliette moved to Hong Kong, where she met her husband, Anthony Ng. She started a supply chain business specialising in the export of garments from China to France, and sold the business 25 years later to the Li & Fung Group, a global supply chain company.
After selling her company, Juliette was able to pursue her passion for classical music, founding a classical music website interlude.hk. This has grown since 2010 into one of the world’s most popular resources for texts on classical music, with an archive of hundreds of original articles. Juliette’s daughter, Melissa Ng (2009), read Medicine at Clare and currently holds a Fellowship at Stanford University.
Over the past seven years, Juliette has been a major supporter of Clare Choir and College music, and her generosity has enabled the
conservation and enhancement of the Hall and Chapel to facilitate their use for a range of College functions.
