Clare News Summer 2025

from the editor

In this special 700th anniversary issue of Clare News we reflect on the celebrations so far and delve into the College’s 700-year history. Inside you’ll find highlights from the ‘70 for 700’ online exhibition and details of a special anniversary publication, an exploration of how the gardens have evolved over time, and interviews with two Clare centenarians.

Fellow Ruth Watson shares insights from her research on crowds in world history and Fellows’ Librarian Timothy Chesters provides highlights of the 700th anniversary exhibition. Postgraduate students discuss their current research and we also feature interviews with some of our longest-serving staff.

We hope that as many alumni as possible will be able to return to Clare at least once in 2026. For those who can’t, we hope this issue of Clare News brings the anniversary year to life.
