Blue Plaque installed at Clare St Regis
Richarda Morrow-Tait, affectionately known as ‘Dikki,’ a trailblazing pilot and adventurer from Cambridge, was honoured with a blue plaque in recognition of her remarkable achievement as the first woman to fly around the world.

The plaque was unveiled at Cambridge Airport in August 2024, marking the 75th anniversary of the completion of her historic flight, before being installed at Clare’s postgraduate accommodation of St Regis, the site where Richarda once lived.
The St Regis site on Chesterton Road has been providing graduate accommodation for Clare’s students for over fifty years. The original late- 1930s site was acquired by the College in the 1960s and underwent a complete rebuild in 2018. The blue plaque has been installed on the front façade of the block facing Chesterton Road. Above are carvings of swifts, inspired by the birds that nested in the original St Regis buildings.
The Cambridge Blue Plaque scheme commemorates people and events that have made a significant impact on the area, the UK or, indeed, the world, and is run by local charity Cambridge Past, Present & Future. Dikki’s plaque was the 40th to be installed since the scheme started in 2001.
