Alumni dinner in Singapore, January 2024

Clare alumni are to be found in every corner of the world, and on every continent (except, at the time of writing, Antarctica). To strengthen the bonds between the College and its global family, the Master and Fellow for Development have recently visited a number of major cities, in both hemispheres, where there are concentrations of Clare alumni.

In May 2023, the Master hosted dinners in Boston and New York; each was well attended by alumni spanning many generations, from the 1950s to recent graduates. The College is grateful to David Campbell (1967) for his assistance in securing the venue for the Boston dinner. In Philadelphia, Clare alumnus and member of the Old Court Campaign Board, Shanin Specter (1983), kindly hosted an event at his home. In December 2023, to coincide with Clare Choir’s tour of California, the Master met with alumni in Los Angeles, San Diego and the Bay Area, and hosted a dinner in San Francisco.

The Master looks forward to making a return visit to the East Coast of the USA in September 2024.

January this year saw the Master and Fellow for Development visit Asia, with large gatherings of Clare alumni in Hong Kong and Singapore. The College is especially grateful to Juliette Liu (Elizabeth de Clare Fellow) for her generous assistance in facilitating the Hong Kong visit and dinner, and to Ian Pearman (1993) for his help in organising the dinner in Singapore. This was the first alumni event ever hosted by a Clare Master in the city, and was an especially joyous occasion, attracting some two-thirds of all College alumni in Singapore. The Master looks forward to a return visit to Hong Kong and Singapore. In the meantime, the College hopes to take advantage of Fellows’ overseas visits to bring more of the ‘Clare experience’ to alumni in every corner of the globe. And watch out for College gatherings in Australia in July 2025!
